Separate mechanisms needed to regulate radio, television: Minister Karki

Kathmandu, April 6, Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki has insisted on the need of separate mechanisms to deal with television and radio.
Taking part in an interaction programme on the ‘necessity of digitalized television’ organised here today, the Communications Minister said the Ministry alone could not handle the acts of providing operation license to radio and television and regulate them that’s why the formation of separate authorised bodies was needed to unburden the Ministry’s works.
He said Nepal is not enough prepared to catch up the increasing wave of technology in the word.
Also speaking at the programme, Joint Secretary at the Ministry, Ramchandra Dhakal said preparations were on to digitalise all television channels by the end of April 2018.
The Ministry has suspended the granting of operation license in regard with the cable television since November, 2014 to digitalise cable television broadcasting.
Chair of Cable Television Federation Sudhir Parajuli underlined the need of a digitalized television in an alternative to cable television in this digital era.
