Nepal firm on One-China Policy: Foreign Minister Mahat

Kathmandu : Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has made it clear that Nepal was committed to the One-China Policy and the Chinese government had no doubts over it.
Talking to media persons at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Minister Dr Mahat said, “The news concerning our foreign affairs that came in a print media in the capital city on Tuesday was baseless, rumoured and ill-intended.”
He urged the media house and journalists not to report on a very sensitive issue like foreign affairs without in-depth study. “I’ve realized that the news relating to foreign affairs has come in a pre-planned way,” the Minister reiterated.
Moreover, he said the high level India visit of NC President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was focused on the country’s welfare. “There is no provision that Nepali leader could not meet foreign leaders including Prime Minister without the presence of Foreign Ministry’s representative,” he observed, adding it is however good to have a representative of the Ministry.
According to him, the officials from the Chinese Embassy during a meeting earlier today were found satisfied against what came in the news that reported China’s concern over Nepali activities.
Government’s perspective towards both the neigbours was same. Chinese President is visiting Nepal soon and preparations for it are underway, he added.
