India successfully testfires interceptor missile

 

NEW DELHI, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) — India successfully testified an interceptor missile on Saturday from an island off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha, sources said.
“The interceptor missile that can hit an incoming ballistic missile was testified from Abdul Kalam Island and the testfiring over Bay of Bengal was successful,” sources said.
The interceptor missile is part of India’s two-layered Ballistic Missile Defense System which is being developed.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated scientists of the state-owned Defense Research Development Organisation for the successful testfiring of the missile.
“Today our scientists have made a missile that could attack an incoming missile in the sky, only 4-5 countries in the world have done this,” he tweeted.
